Warner Bros.'s SPACE INVADERS Film Finds Writer in MORTAL KOMBAT

Fatality

Greg Russo - the writer of the "Mortal Kombat" movie reboot - has been hired to pen the screenplay for the "Space Invaders" movie at New Line, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Russo revealed these details on Twitter, telling fans that he wanted to put rumours to bed. A new Mortal Kombat movie is now under development and its screen writer has just confirmed that it will be R-rated. At the same time, that violence is a character within Mortal Kombat, a layer of style that no other video game on the planet can lay claim to. There's been two previous Mortal Kombat films to date, although neither of them were particularly bloody and were slapped with a PG-13 certificate in the US. It had more realistic action, gore, and fatalities.

Simon McQuoid is set to direct the new Mortal Kombat film, which will be produced by James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring Universe).

When the original movie arrived in theaters back in 1995, it was fairly well received. This is evident from last week's first casting news, which confirmed that Joe Taslim (The Raid) will play ninja Sub-Zero.

Mortal Kombat will be released on 5 March 2021.
