Truck Spills $175K on Georgia Highway

The Dunwoody Police Department commends Randrell Lewis center for returning $2,100 that fell out of an armored truck

Police in Georgia encouraged the public to "do the right thing" after a flurry of money spilled out from an armored auto onto a Georgia interstate Tuesday night.

A side door on a Gardaworld truck unexpectedly opened as the vehicle was driving westbound on I-285 near Ashford Dunwoody Road outside Atlanta.

Cash litters Interstate 285 outside Atlanta after an armored truck's side door unexpectedly opened. "Now the Atlanta PD is asking for the money back and HAD YALL NOT RECORDED then they would no plates to search for".

The Dunwoody Police Department says that officers and the truck crew were able to collect a few hundred dollars.

"This is someone's money, it's not free money, it belongs to someone it needs to get back to them", said Dunwoody Police Sgt. Roberts Parsons.

"I just saw a cloud full of what looked like leaves", 26-year-old Randrell Lewis, who was on his way to Alpharetta that night, told the New York Times.

Amazon's Alexa to offer NHS healthcare advice
Amazon said it began updating its Echo smart speakers to search NHS websites for medical answers at the start of the week. Big Brother Watch , a pro-privacy civil liberties group, called the move "a data protection disaster waiting to happen".

Meanwhile, videos circulating on social media show the frenzy caused by the spilled cash. Under Georgia law, retrieving money from the highway constitutes "theft of mislaid property", which makes it a misdemeanor to keep lost items "without first taking reasonable measures to restore the property to the owner".

"If the money is turned in, we will not criminally charge those who do the right thing", Sergeant Parsons said.

"So, believe it or not, some people have been returning the money", cops said in another statement.

"They were going into the woods, jumping over the walls, doing everything they can to find the money", Parsons said with a chuckle, adding there wasn't any left.

As of Wednesday night, Police said five people turned in money.

Police urge motorists to return the money plucked from the roadside.
