Paul Ryan Was Bribed to Call Me Stupid

Trump unloads on Paul Ryan after ‘American Carnage’ excerpts

Did you hear? Paul Ryan has been quoted at length in Politico correspondent Tim Alberta's new book American Carnage, and in that book, he's totally roasting Donald Trump!

But the on-again, off-again duo is back in the spotlight thanks to new comments in a forthcoming book and Trump has found the time to punch back about Ryan's assertions the President doesn't understand government. Alberta wrote that the former speaker, who retired from Congress in 2018, could not stand the idea of another two years with the Republican president and saw retirement as the "escape hatch". Trump concluded, "Couldn't get him out of Congress fast enough!" a change of heart from his April 2018 tweet stating, "Speaker Paul Ryan is a truly good man, and while he will not be seeking re-election, he will leave a legacy of achievement that nobody can question". "Because, I'm telling you, he didn't know anything about government ... All the time", Ryan reportedly told him.

More strangely, Trump's indictment of Ryan's tenure includes lambasting him for failing to get subpoenas: "He was no leader ... he wouldn't get subpoenas ... when Nancy Pelosi hands them out like they're cookies". "For him to be going out and opening his mouth is pretty incredible". Trump unloaded an angry late-night tweetstorm on Ryan, calling Ryan a "lame duck failure" who "had the Majority and blew it away". "But maybe he gets paid".

Following Ryan's retirement announcement a year ago, Trump tweeted: "Speaker Paul Ryan is a truly good man, and while he will not be seeking re-election, he will leave a legacy of achievement that nobody can question". "Never knew how to go after the Dems like they go after us".

Trump to Sign Order to Improve Kidney Disease Care

As of early afternoon Friday, Ryan had not comment on Twitter, and has not tweeted since mid-May. In the fall of 2016, Ryan infamously told members of the Republican caucus in the House that they did not have to defend the president when he was accused of using offensive language toward women in a leaked Access Hollywood video.

Trump was still defensive on Friday afternoon when he told the press that Ryan was a "terrible Speaker" and a "baby". "All the time", Ryan said.

Ryan described Trump as painfully ignorant and painted a GOP leadership group toiling behind the scenes to "stop him from making bad decisions". "We helped him make much better decisions, which were contrary to kind of what his knee-jerk reaction was".
