Buckingham Palace break in: Man scales fence while Queen sleeps

Buckingham Palace

The incident is not being treated as terror-related, with the man remaining in custody at a central London police station.

He was held on suspicion of trespassing at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday by specialist royal police officers, the Metropolitan police said.

The Queen was in residence at the time, having returned from a visit to Cambridge.

Buckingham Palace had a breach of security.

Fagan was not charged, as at the time it was a civil wrong not a criminal offence, but he was charged with theft of half a bottle of wine which he had drunk on a previous incident in which he claimed to have entered the palace.

The 22-year-old man is believed to have climbed over the fence from the Buckingham Palace Road side of the building; he was arrested just a few minutes later, according to the BBC.

Since her ascension to the throne in 1952, Queen Elizabeth II has lived through multiple royal security breaches.

Earlier this week, the U.S. site TMZ described ASAP Rocky's existence at Kronoborghäktet detention centre as utterly miserable. Lilja added, "He has lacked appetite at the beginning when he was arrested but tries to eat to the best of his ability".

Police were anxious that this invasion was a copycat operation of a previous Buckingham Palace break in 37 years ago-this incident last night had nearly occurred on the exact date as the other one.

In 1982, Michael Fagan broke into the palace at 7.15am on July 9, climbing the walls of the residence and entering the Queen's bedroom.

"There's a genuine theory and real fear that he could've been launching a copycat operation".

"How is it possible all these years later that someone can climb the fence and get right inside the grounds without being stopped immediately?"

As the 31-year-old schizophrenic began to tell his monarch about his family problems, she pushed the panic button by her bed but got no response.

During the incident Fagan smashed a large glass ashtray and threatened to slash his wrists.
