Morsi was Egypt's first democratically elected president

Former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi died on Monday in a Cairo hospital after fainting during a session in court, judicial and security sources said.

State television said he was in court for a hearing on charges of espionage eminating from suspected contacts wuth the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas. The incident happened during the adjournment of the court session, when Morsi reportedly suffered a heart attack.

The late Morsi was born in Giza's al-Ayat.

Kamel Madour, a member of the imprisoned leader's defense team, says Morsi "was very calm and organized". The team also found that Morsi, who had a history of diabetes, liver and kidney diseases, was not receiving the required medical care.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and President Reuvin Rivlin, were planning to visit Nigeria after 61 years.
