Early autopsy results released after 3 Americans die at Dominican Republic resort

The FBI is now helping local authorities in the Dominican Republic examine the mysterious deaths of three Americans who were staying at resorts in the island country, an FBI official has confirmed to NPR.

But his niece said he fell ill nearly immediately after drinking a scotch from the minibar at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and was dead just three days later in April.

What makes the string of deaths particularly disturbing is that many appear to follow a similar pattern in that they involve healthy, middle-aged adults who took a drink from their hotel room minibar before suddenly becoming gravely sick. He died April 14.

Wallace's family was alarmed to hear of three more deaths of American tourists that had occurred in the Dominican Republic in the month following his death.

People Magazine reported that a Pennsylvania woman died May 25 shortly after drinking from the minibar at Bahia Principe La Romana hotel.

Arnold said her uncle was in good health and had just gone skiing in Lake Tahoe a month prior.

Dominican authorities asked for the FBI's help in conducting toxicology analysis in the investigations stemming from the deaths at the luxury destinations run by the Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, according to the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo.

According to Univision, Robin Bernstein, the ambassador of the United States to the Dominican Republic, said last week the recent high-profile incidents were isolated cases.

The Dominican Republic National Police announced that an autopsy found the couple had respiratory failure and pulmonary edema.

The Dominican Republic Tourism Ministry said it extended condolences to the families and friends of those affected in the tragic events that were reported in the country. Sport's sister Felecia Nieves, in an interview with FOX29, said they were told Sport died from a heart attack. On April 11, he had a scotch from the minibar.

Forty-eight Americans died in the Dominican Republic between 2016 and 2018, according to statistics available on the US Department of State website.

"The freaky issue of the same hotel and these things happening within days of each other and the complete unexpected nature of what happened to Miranda, we just want to understand this", McDonald told the affiliate.

"People report food-borne illnesses but it's possible that they experienced some other type of contamination", said Patrick Quade, founder of iwaspoisoned.com, adding that he had consulted with scientists with regards to the findings. Their death certificates list the cause of death for both as heart attacks.

"When all these people started passing, I stopped and thought to myself, 'How can all these people have the same cause of death as David?'" she told The Washington Post.

"At this point, we're now not responsive to any connection between these incidents", the dependable instructed ABC News in an announcement. Knull said that her blood boiled and it made her want to cry and scream.
