NASA Planning to Land First American Woman on the Moon by 2024

SHRIVELLING The Moon is wrinkling like a raisin as its core shrinks

Following its collision with the surface of the Moon, NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) passed over the crash site and photographed the scene. This is because, as the moon shrinks, its brittle surface breaks forming "thrust faults". Due to this continuous process, the Moon has shrunk 50 meters (150 feet) over millions of years.

Using a new algorithm created to pinpoint the origins of shallow rumblings produced by a sparse fault network, scientists analyzed the data collected by seismometers placed on the lunar surface during the Apollo missions. The agency has long had ambitions to return to the lunar surface, even beginning plans to build a space station in orbit of the moon to make it easier.

He also explained that the moonquakes recorded aren't minor, they are "fairly strong, around five on the Richter scale". Meteor strikes, like those that caused the Moon's most distinctive features, still rain down today, so astronomers couldn't be sure whether the Moon was shaking itself, or being shaken by external forces.

The study is published on May 14 in the journal Nature Geoscience.

"No woman has ever walked on the lunar surface". These are cliffs caused by the Moon's surface shearing away from itself, thanks to long-term shrinking and contracting of the surface.

Because a "struggle ensued", the officer was forced to Tase the woman with his department-issued Taser, the release states. Per department policy, the officer has been placed on three days of paid administrative leave, the Baytown reported.

Astronauts have described these fault marks as a step-shaped cliff. A team of researchers have now reanalyzed the data along with detailed images captured by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which was launched in 2009. Future research can also help scientists understand what is occurring on other celestial bodies like the planet Mercury, which is also shrinking and has thousands of thrust faults. Think of a grape shriveling into a raisin.

"We conclude that the proximity of moonquakes to the young thrust faults together with evidence of regolith disturbance and boulder movements on and near the fault scarps strongly suggest the Moon is tectonically active", the study's abstract reads.

NASA will send the first woman, and next man, to the Moon by 2024.

On Monday, Mr Trump tweeted: "Under my Administration, we are restoring @NASA to greatness and we are going back to the Moon, then Mars". In addition to these, the new study shows that 6 of the 8 quakes happened when the moon was at or near the apogee. "It's the boost NASA needs to move forward with design, development and exploration", NASA's administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a video released for the agency's employees.

"I have a daughter, she's 11 years old, and I want her to see herself in the same position that our current, very diverse astronaut corps now sees itself, having the opportunity to go to the Moon", Mr Bridenstine said.
