Jose Mourinho On Jurgen Klopp's Need To Win Champions League

Manchester City Facing a Costly UEFA Champions League Ban

Uefa investigators want Manchester City to be banned from the Champions League for a season if they are found guilty of breaking financial rules.

Jurgen Klopp knew he had a job on his hands to make up ground on Manchester City this season and as much as the new signings would help, he also had to coach improvement out of his current squad.

"Manchester City football club is disappointed, but regrettably not surprised, by the sudden announcement of the referral to be made by the CFCB IC chief investigator Yves Leterme", the club said.

UEFA are looking to slap a 1 year ban on Manchester City, and will be advocating for that punishment in the coming month or so.

However, UEFA began a new probe after further allegations about the same period initially looked into were made in German publication Der Spiegel previous year.

Liverpool FC were Manchester City's closest Premier League title challengers this season and they were top of the table for large portions of the campaign.

Myanmar Airlines pilot saves all with nail-biting touchdown after landing gear fails
Myanmar National Airlines have since sent engineers to the airport to check on the aircraft to establish the cause of the fault. The Embraer jet skidded for roughly 25 seconds with its nose on the tarmac before coming to a halt.

Key to the investigation is whether City deceived UEFA for several years, including by disguising the source of revenue from sponsorship deals tied to the club's owners in Abu Dhabi.

Manchester City have been criticised over a video that appears to show players and staff joining in a song that celebrates Liverpool fans being "battered in the street". "The accusation of financial irregularities are entirely false, and comprehensive proof of this fact has been provided to the CFCB IC", the statement concluded. Money spent on stadiums, training facilities, youth development or community projects is exempt.

Has anyone been punished before?

Meanwhile, FIFA, the Premier League and the Football Association (FA) have also issued orders to conduct investigations into City's operations in relation to the allegations mentioned above.

In 2014, Qatar-owned Paris St-Germain received a similar financial punishment to the one City received.

Since then, the 25-year-old has featured in the Reds' final match of the season against Wolves, however, the player has admitted he was struggling.
