Conway died at 8:45 a.m.in the Los Angeles area.

He had been battling a longtime illness prior to his death, called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, said Howard Bragman, Conway's representative.

It was his work in Carol Burnett's variety show that really stood out, however, as he earned a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in the series as well as several Primetime Emmys. His improvised antics often reduced his co-stars - especially his close friend Korman - to tears of laughter.

"I'm heartbroken. He was one in a million, not only as a brilliant comedian but as a loving human being", Burnett said about Conway in a statement to CNN on Tuesday. His most-beloved Burnett show characters were the Oldest Man and Mr. Tudball.
