Bashir's brother not in detention: Sudan army

The opposition Declaration of Forces for Freedom and Change threatened the army with civil disobedience if it does not give in to their demands

Five Sudanese protesters and an army major were shot dead on Monday in the capital, hours after protest leaders and the ruling generals reached a breakthrough agreement on transitional authorities to run the country.

The transitional military council now ruling the country has said Bashir will face justice in Sudan and will not be extradited to The Hague, where the International Criminal Court has charged him with war crimes and genocide linked to the Darfur conflict in the early 2000s.

Uniformed gunmen opened fire on protesters on Monday evening soon after Sudanese broke their Ramadan fast, killing six people and wounding scores more, according to the Doctors' Committee, an opposition grouping.

On its Twitter page, state media outlet SUNA reported that three of those injured in the Khartoum shootig were members of the armed forces.

The military council had slammed the blocking of the avenue.

Late on Sunday the spokesman for the ruling military council, Lieutenant General Shamseddine Kabbashi, confirmed the new round of talks will be held on Monday. He's now being held in the Kober maximum security prison, where Bashir sent many of his political enemies during his presidency.

The charges form part of an investigation into the death of a medic killed during a protest in the capital's eastern district of Burri, his office said in a statement.

The spokesman for Sudan's military council said on Monday that the structure of transitional bodies had been agreed with opposition groups and their make-up would be addressed in further talks a day later. They don't want to be caught unawares when the forces come for them.

Outside the military headquarters, protesters blamed the attack on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, which is controlled by the military council's deputy leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemeti.

Protesters, demanding a swift handover of power to civilians, have been camped out outside the Defence Ministry compound in central Khartoum since 6 April.

"Some unidentified elements who wanted to spoil negotiations between the two sides tried to enter the sit-in. and gunshots were fired that led to the killing of a major from the military police", the military council said.

The statement also called for heading to the location of the sit-in, in front of the General Command of the Sudanese Armed Forces, and supporting the protesters. The protesters maintain that civilians should take the lead and the transitional period should be four years - long enough to draft a new constitution and election law, as well as negotiate a peaceful end to rebellions that have displaced millions of people in the country.
