Trump pledges to advance 5G network in the country

FCC to hold big 5G auction spend $20B for rural internet

"The race to 5G is a race that we must win". China is also moving quickly on 5G.

We have to think very seriously about what types of equipment and services we include in our networks here.

President Donald Trump said at the event that 5G is a priority for his administration.

Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Ajit Pai speaks at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at National Harbor, Maryland, U.S., February 23, 2018.

His remarks came after the country's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced Friday a plan to start largest spectrum auction and spend over Dollars 20 billion for rural high-speed internet, Xinhua news agency reported.

The FCC also said Friday that it will be "repurposing" funds from existing programs to provide $20.4 billion, over a decade, to internet providers, with the goal of connecting up to 4 million rural homes and small businesses to high-speed internet.

According to the FCC, this auction will “promote the development of 5G, the Internet of Things, and over advanced spectrum-based services.

"American companies must lead the world in cellular technology". The chairman hopes to start that process sometime this year.

Trump said the 5G industry in the United States would be "private sector-driven and private sector-led", so the US government does not have to spend lots of money.

EU, US: European Ambassadors Approve Trade Negotiation Mandate
That is potentially good news for the WTO and the broader system Mr Trump has often said he wants to blow up. The World Trade Organization has ruled in separate cases against Boeing and Airbus.

"We have the greatest number of 5G deployments now than any country in the world". However, in contrast to the Trump administration's worldwide tour warning allies about the security dangers of implementing foreign technology in the development of 5G - the networks that will operate with lightning-speed connections - Trump did not specifically bring up China or its top telecom companies, Huawei and ZTE.

Riley Walters, a policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation's Asian Studies Center, agreed, saying the "private sector is the most efficient way to distribute 5G capabilities, even if it's not at the pace nationalization proponents would like to see".

At the FCC and across the United States government we want to make sure that our networks, especially our next generation 5G networks, are secure and reliable.

"We don't want to do that. It won't be almost as good, almost as fast".

"It simply won't work. The government doesn't have to spend lots of money".

Chairman Pai told Yahoo Finance 5G has the potential to create an internet economy that would "dwarf what we saw with 4G", though it's hard to estimate 5G's economic impact at this point.

Did you know we have a YouTube Channel?

The new 5G networks "will improve Americans' lives in so many ways", FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said.
