The photo in question of Carlton AFLW star Tayla Harris which caused unwanted online controversy this week.

Australian rules footballer Harris was targeted with derogatory comments underneath a picture of her playing for the Carlton Blues on social media.

Tayla Harris on Wednesday said she was repulsed by some online comments regarding the photo, which was posted on Twitter by 7AFL, a Seven television network site, after Harris' team Carlton beat the Western Bulldogs 6.5 (41) to 5.8 (38) on Sunday.

Australia's prime minister Scott Morrison has described social media users who posted abusive comments beneath a photograph of Australian Rules player Tayla Harris as "cowardly grubs". They play Fremantle Dockers in Melbourne on Sunday for a place in the final.

Harris called for the AFL and possibly police to take action.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan said that the situation around the iconic photo of a "great athlete" was unacceptable. The company reposted the photo after a backlash.

"I think they're grubs", he said.

"There's negativity in lots of assets of our game and community", McLachlan said. If they're thinking this way and able to write it down, what are they going to do when I'm on sideline meeting some kids - that's what I'm going to have to think about now. "That feels a very positive step".

"Criticism comes with the game. but there needs to be at least an element of controlling it online".

PewDiePie briefly lost his crown as the biggest YouTuber on the planet
PewDiePie has regained its number one spot and now has 90,759,960 subscribers while T-Series has garnered 90,759,740 subscribers. More worryingly, if the rival channel becomes the first one to touch the 100 million mark, the malware would delete the data.

"It definitely does take a toll [on the players] mentally".

The broadcaster says its intention was to "highlight" Harris' "incredible athleticism" and that they will "continue to celebrate women's footy". "That's probably the most concerning part around it all".

"These people need to be called out by the AFL yes but also then taken further".

"If I can stand up here and say something about it and start the conversation. if that helps one person or heaps of people then that's what I want to do", Harris told reporters outside Ikon Park yesterday.

However, Harris has come forward to voice her concern that the trolls who made the initial comments might target her in the flesh.

"They're nothing new unfortunately. I post this photo proudly promoting women in sport". "But the fact of the matter is AFLW has led to more women enjoying footy as participants, I don't see how that could be a bad thing".

"... The support that has come from this has been phenomenal".

"I think they're cowardly grubs, who need to wake up to themselves", he said in Melbourne on Thursday.

"That's all you can really ask". Things have changed. if you're not with us, you will be left behind.
