FINALLY, Someone Calls Out GM And Its Perpetual Incompetence — IT'S ABOUT TIME

The president also expressed frustration that "talks" between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union would begin in September or October. Bring jobs home!' he wrote.

President Donald Trump is calling on General Motors to reopen their recently closed plant in Lordstown, Ohio.

Referring to his conversation with CEO Mary Barra, Trump added: "I asked her to sell it or do something quickly".

The US president has blasted the automaker's top executive for a decision to close a number of plants in the US and Canada and the company's reluctance to sell the factories to a different owner, forcing thousands of people out of their jobs.

Green didn't respond to a request for comment Sunday.

The Lordstown GM plant stopped production on March 6 after General Motors announced plans last November to close multiple manufacturing sites and cut 15,000 jobs.

The automaker also says that it has "opportunities available for virtually all impacted employees" at plants that are to be shuttered.

Trudeau visits mosque after Christchurch terror attack
The preschooler was praying alongside her father Wasseim at the Al Noor mosque when she was shot at least three times. He also praised US President Donald Trump as "a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose".

"Just spoke to Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors about the Lordstown Ohio plant", Trump tweeted Sunday. The plant produced Chevy Cruze vehicles.

To Trump's point, that's still a relatively strong vehicle market, with sales hitting a record in 2016 at 17.6 million.

On Monday morning, Mr. Trump reiterated his support for the Lordstown plant to reopen quickly. At the time that GM announced that it was cutting plants in January, Lordstown was only using about one-third of its production, according to researcher LMC Automotive. In the following month, Barra said in meetings with OH lawmakers that the future of the factory can turn on the outcome of labor talks.

Mr. Trump tweeted over the weekend and through Monday morning about his frustration with the plant's closure, claiming that "car companies are all coming back to the U.S." and touting the US economy as "the envy of all".

Toyota, Japan's largest automaker, has tried to work its way into Trump's good graces after being a target of his tweets when he was president-elect in January 2017. Over five years Toyota plans to invest almost $13 billion.

The last Chevrolet Cruze rolled off the assembly line on March 6 at Lordstown, the first of five plants in North America to end production this year, and ending USA production of the Cruze. Republican Senator Rob Portman of OH called it a "sad day" and urged GM to use the site for future electric-vehicle production.

Both GM and the UAW have said that the future of Lordstown is expected to be an issue during contract negotiations this summer.
