Australian Man Appears In Court On Murder Charge After Christchurch Attack

In the wake of Friday's terror attack on two Christchurch mosques that took the lives of 49 people and injured at least 40, the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh is working to reciprocate the support that Pittsburgh's Jewish community received from Muslim groups in its own time of need.

"The man in the vehicle has been charged with firearms offences".

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern reacts during a briefing in Wellington, capital of New Zealand, on March 16, 2019. Worshippers, possibly dead or wounded, lay on the floor, the video showed. No images have emerged from there.

His relatives in the Australian town of Grafton, in New South Wales, contacted police after learning of the shooting and were helping with the investigation, local authorities said. Afghanistan's embassy in Canberra named Nabi as one of two Afghans killed in the attack.

"It is clear that this can now only be described as a terrorist attack", said Ardern. Police said further charges were expected to follow.

Officers arrested two others following the attacks and are now working to establish whether they had any involvement in the terror attacks against the Muslim community in New Zealand. Dozens more were taken to hospital, with about 48 discharged since the shootings. Another victim died in hospital.

Fifty people were injured and Christchurch hospital is still treating 36, of whom 12 are in a critical condition. "The people of New Zealand are in our thoughts and prayers". "Rhetoric of racism, division and extremism has no place not only in New Zealand but I would say in a society as a whole".

In what appeared to be the worst attack against Muslims in a western country, witnesses spoke of victims being shot at close range, with women and children believed to be among those killed.

The majority of victims were migrants or refugees from countries such as Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Somalia and Afghanistan. He also apparently smirked at photographers, according to the New Zealand Herald.

"I'm not sure how to deal with this".

"My warmest sympathy and best wishes goes out to the people of New Zealand after the frightful massacre in the Mosques", he tweeted.

"She came here for the peace.now she is shocked", he said, adding his mother was too afraid to leave her house. The suspect, who posted an anti-immigrant manifesto online and apparently used a helmet-mounted camera to broadcast live video of the slaughter in the city of Christchurch, appeared to make a hand sign, similar to an OK sign, that is sometimes associated with white nationalists.

During a Saturday press conference, Ardern said the gunman had two semi-automatic weapons, two shotguns, and a lever-action firearm (five firearms in total).

"While work is being done as to the chain of events that led to both the holding of a gun license and the possession of these weapons, I can tell you one thing right now: our gun laws will change", said Ardern.
