Warren Gatland snaps back at Eddie Jones ahead of Six Nations finale

Munster player to make Six Nations debut for Ireland against Wales

Ahead of a decisive Six Nations showdown with Wales in Cardiff, Joe Schmidt has announced the Ireland team that will contest the New Zealander's final game in the competition.

England still have hopes of silverware, but they need to beat Scotland at Twickenham, while also requiring an Ireland victory over Wales.

Eddie Jones has stirred the pot by saying he thinks Wales could be exhausted because they've made the most tackles, while Ireland's big-game players are peaking.

"I have said to this group of players you might never get a chance like this again and you don't want to let those opportunities pass you by".

"If no-one does think we're going to win, then that's fine", said Scotland coach Gregor Townsend. Let us know in the comments.

"We don't have any plan [about the Wales game]", he added.

Saturday's encounter will be the final Six Nations game for Gatland and his coaching lieutenants like Rob Howley and Shaun Edwards, as they all leave their posts after the World Cup in Japan later this year.

Kearney had to pull out of their game against France at the last minute and was replaced by Jordan Larmour, who now drops to the bench.

"We've named an unchanged squad and rewarded the players for the last couple of outings and the last couple of victories".

"We're going in a great direction and Saturday will be a bit of an explosion", said Jones.

Jones foresees a "fascinating" weekend, but he is hopeful that Ireland and England can capitalise on a tiring Welsh side. Great credit to them for what they've done, but they are starting to look a bit exhausted.

"They're well coached and I'm sure they'll handle it and if they do, then it doesn't matter for us as we have to play (Scotland)".

Gatland recounted in his book in 2017 how he informed Schmidt he would be dropping by the Ireland camp to see him - about being a coach on the prospective Lions tour to New Zealand that year, an offer he declined - and sit in on a team meeting. They're in a good spot and they've got a lot to prove in the last game, haven't they?'
