According to the patent Google is considering working on a foldable handset.

Google may be looking to toss its hat in the foldable ring, according to a patent application discovered by Patently Mobile on Tuesday.

With all that being said, Google is a huge technology company with vast resources, and if people start spending on folding phones (i.e.it sees profit in them), it will no doubt produce one at some point. While we've seen this design in a few other patents it's something fewer manufacturers seem to be considering, as most patents we've seen show phones folding in two. It is worth noting that Google has neither confirmed nor denied that it is now hard at works on a phone that folds in half. It only mentions it's to be used in a "modern computing device". You would expect in the future this would change, if foldable phones take off.

Will be it added to a phone, a tablet, or something so futuristic we can't comprehend it? Interestingly, the patent also shows a second foldable design wherein the smartphone folds twice, making a Z-fold.

The device is likely to have an inwardly foldable display

A Google patent has emerged revealing a design concept for a folding display.

Several major phone manufacturers are scrambling to bring out foldable phones to rival the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, and now it seems Google is planning to enter the fray.

Keep in mind Google has some experiences working with foldable glass. At the moment, we can't surely say that Google's ever going to make the device described in the patent, but I really hope that they make an attempt. As per the latest patent filed by Apple at U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reveal, that the company is seeking details to a solution associated with the wear and tear of a foldable smartphone.
