Vienna tops list of best cities

Vienna is the best place to live if you want a good quality life

Vienna has been named the city with the best quality of life for a 10th consecutive year in a survey published Wednesday.

Research into the practicalities of daily life for worldwide employees and their families forms the basis of the annual quality of living ranking, which is conducted annually for multinational companies and other organisations which place employees on global assignments, Mercer writes on its website.

Iraq's capital, in 231st place, is apparently not among them, scoring understandably low in multiple factors Mercer uses to make its calculations.

Venezuela's capital fell 29 positions on the world scale, ranking 202nd out of 231 cities analyzed by the global consultancy based in NY.

Chennai was ranked the safest city in South Asia with a factor-wise ranking of 105 while Colombo, at 138, topped the region. Hong Kong was ranked 71st and Seoul 77nd. Australia's major cities all rank within the top 50 for safety, with New Zealand cities Auckland and Wellington topping the safety ranking for Oceania in joint ninth place.

Political and social environment (political stability, crime, law enforcement, etc.).

Dubai (74th) continues to rank highest for quality of living across the Middle East, closely followed by Abu Dhabi (78th).

Of the 231 cities reviewed by Mercer, the Iraqi capital Baghdad came out as the worst, behind Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic, and the Yemeni capital Sanaa. This year, Mercer provides a separate ranking on personal safety. As many as 13 of the world's top 20 spots were taken by European cities.
