Six Nations considers £500m offer from CVC Capital Partners

Guiness Six Nations

News of the offer comes on the eve of a World Rugby-hosted meeting in Dublin in which the controversial Nations League is to be discussed.

"The players. want to work with World Rugby, unions, provinces and clubs to genuinely explore what may be possible", he said.

This week, several unions and the worldwide players' body will meet in Dublin to deliberate over the controversial new global rugby competition. That would see the Six Nations' best sides facing off with the top Test teams from the Rugby Championship, plus two further nations drawn into that Southern Hemisphere competition.

Despite revealing details of a proposed multi-billion pound investment deal with sports marketing company Infront though, World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont admitted resistance to World Rugby's plans still remain.

Top players across the world are more attuned to their own welfare and safety than ever before.

PRL and LNR added the world governing body had broken an agreement which was reached in January 2017 about future plans for the worldwide game running until 2032.

They stated that an extension to the global rugby union calendar undermines an agreement made in 2017 for a "proportionate [international] structure" until 2032, and could have an adverse impact on other club and regional competitions, which they say have been excluded from World Rugby's negotiations.

Among other announcements made by World Rugby, the proposed new format would be "underpinned by a record commercial partnership" with marketing company Infront, which they say will guarantee nearly £5 billion ($6.6 billion/€5.9 billion) for investment in the sport over 12 years.

Samsung keeps the dream of the under-screen camera alive
Don't expect to see it on the Galaxy S11 next year, or even the Galaxy S12 the year after that, however. Samsung has proven in the past that it's capable of releasing ambitious phone designs.

"Everyone, not just the established teams, will benefit, accelerating the development and competitiveness of the global game".

World Rugby's plans came in for heavy criticism last week after several high-profile players aired concerns about the strain additional Test matches and travel could place on player welfare.

'The feeling on the call was that it is no longer appropriate for World Rugby and the unions to determine tournament structures, logistics and tournament terms of participation without getting to an agreed outcome with players'.

"The proposed business model covers both media and marketing rights but does not include any sale of equity in the competition and therefore full control of the competition and its revenue redistribution model would be retained by the unions, the current major competitions and World Rugby", their statement reads.

A new global season is due to kick off next year, running until 2032.

After today's meeting Pichot, who put forward the original idea, said rugby is at "an important time" in its history. "Only by keeping the best interests of the global game at heart will we be able to achieve something truly impactful for the future success and sustainability of the game".

"We have an opportunity to change the landscape of the game for the long-term betterment of all unions", he said.
