IPL Spot-fixing case: Supreme Court sets aside life ban on Sreesanth

Speaking to PTI after a favourable verdict by the apex court on Friday a relieved Sreesanth said 'I don't know what life has in store for me after all these years'

The court hasn't found the 36-year-old to be innocent, but wants the BCCI to alter the quantum of punishment.

S Sreesanth, the tainted Indian fast bowler, was charged with the crime of spot-fixing during the 2013 edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) when he represented the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

The Supreme Court further said that its order should have no effect on criminal proceedings pending against S Sreesanth.

A bench comprising justices Ashok Bhushan and K M Joseph said the disciplinary committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may reconsider within three months the quantum of punishment to be given to Sreesanth.

Sreesanth stated that he has been practicing cricket to remain fit.

Measles Misinformation Draws The Attention Of Canada's Chief Public Health Officer
Measles is highly contagious and is spread in the air through coughing or sneezing by someone who is unwell with the disease. Clark County Public Health says they confirmed a new case yesterday, bringing the county's total to 71 confirmed cases.

Soon after the verdict, Sreesanth spoke to the media.

May 16, 2013: Delhi Police arrests Rajasthan Royals' Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan, Ajit Chandila, and alleged bookie Jiju Janardhan along with 10 other bookies.

Chennai Super Kings, led by former Indian captain MS Dhoni, was also banned for two years after its owner Gurunath Meiyappan was held guilty on charges of betting and passing on information to bookmakers. It should be also noted that the court rejected Sreesanth's request that he should not be punished by any means, as he was acquitted in the spot-fixing case. The apex court observes that Sreesanth's conduct, who is facing a life ban for his alleged involvement in the sensational spot-fixing scandal, in the entire episode was "not good". Sreesanth had earlier claimed in the top court that the life ban was "completely unfair" and the Delhi Police had "continuously tortured" him in custody to extract confession of his involvement in the case. However, in two months, the High Court allowed BCCI's appeal and restored the ban. The Delhi Police had subsequently challenged the decision in Delhi High Court.
