Fleetwood sets hot pace with 65 at Players Championship

Jay Monahan

The world's top 50 golfers and dozens of other hopefuls will compete in this week's Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida with the hope of grabbing the largest single-event purse in professional golf history.

At last year's showpiece, he bravely launched a final day charge up the leaderboard at the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, getting to eight under for the day before a quadruple bogey seven at the famous par-three 17th signature hole sank his hopes.

But the biggest roar came for Moore when he struck a 121-yard sandwedge dead on, his ball striking the pin and shooting straight into the cup.

"Just one hole I didn't play good", said Kiradech.

"That ace on 17 was pretty unbelievable", said Moore.

"I was five under after the first round in Kenya previous year too - I'm not sure what it is about is about Nairobi!" said Hoey, who finished with three successive birdies to share fourth place behind England's Jack Singh Brar and South Africa's Louis de Jager. 'I feel good. I needed last week off. That figure is only $500,000 more than the U.S. Open-now golf's second-most lucrative tournament ever-and $2.25 million (£1.9 million) will go to the victor on the Stadium Course at Sawgrass.

Aaron Baddeley signed for a 75 to drop to three over.

New 'Avengers: Endgame' trailer features Captain Marvel
It's also possible that the suits are somehow created to allow for the team to travel into the Quantum Realm. Steve Rogers tells Natasha in the trailer, "I keep telling people to move on, some did, but not us".

After following a three-putt at the 17th (his eighth) with an 18 footer for birdie at the first, the Clara man three putted the fourth and bogeyed the fifth but then made a 36 footer for a two at the 233-yard eighth before finishing with a par five. It really doesn't matter if you hit the water or the green at that point, it's just an incredibly feeling playing a hole where some of the legends have hit incredible shots that live in the memories of the game forever.

"It is like having a 3 o'clock appointment for a root canal", said Mark Calcavecchia in 2009. "It's hard these days but I'm trying my best".

Tiger Woods, the only golfer to win the Players in March and May, was challenging for the title once again a year ago but put his tee shot into the water in the final round to end his bid.

He also has some good memories from the hole, however.

For Mickelson, the 17th is an unforgiving hole that demands a player commit completely to his shot.

"It's an all-or-nothing type shot".
