At least ten killed in deadly school shooting in Brazil

Brazil school shooting leaves several dead

The police reported that another shooting incident occurred near the Raul Brasil elementary school a little while before the attack at the school.

Officials said the attackers had guns, knives and crossbows and that police were inspecting what appeared to be possible explosives left by the gunmen.

Police officers guard the entrance of the Raul Brasil State School in Suzano, Brazil, on Wednesday.

Police of that area is on high alert and two helicopters were dispatched to assist the cops.

Police said the two men, who they did not believe were former students at the school, entered the building and started shooting at about 9:30 a.m. local time.

The two assailants spent more than a year planning their attack, which they "hoped would draw more attention than the Columbine massacre", an investigator said on condition of anonymity.

The shooters arrived at the school during the lunch break, police said. The gunmen also went to the school's linguistic center, where students hid in a classroom.
