United States markets gain after price data; pound weakens

Global Markets Stocks rise on tame inflation outlook dollar eases

The pound rose on expectations lawmakers would reject a no-deal Brexit and gained further after the motion in Parliament paved the way for a new vote to delay departure from the EU. U.K. lawmakers have rejected the idea of tearing the country out of the European Union with no agreement, and U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May is said to be planning to seek an extension to the March 29 Brexit deadline lasting about two months. Treasuries pared a drop and the dollar gained. The dollar was last down 0.41 percent against the euro, at $1.133.

US/CAD: The Canadian dollar strengthened to a nine-day high against its US counterpart on Wednesday, as rising stocks and oil prices offset domestic data showing the fifth consecutive monthly decline for home prices.

Shanghai's SSE Composite index stumbled 1.2 percent while the blue-chip CSI 300 eased 0.4 percent.

GRAPHIC-World FX rates in 2019: http://tmsnrt.rs/2egbfVh (Recasts; updates prices) By Kate Duguid NEW YORK, March 13 (Reuters) - The British pound jumped in late Wednesday trade, hitting session highs after British lawmakers rejected leaving the European Union without a deal in any scenario.

USA producer prices barely edged higher in February to mark the smallest annual increase since June 2017, in the latest sign of benign inflation that supports the Federal Reserve's wait-and-see approach to future interest rate hikes.

U.S. crude stocks fell last week as refineries hiked output, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said. Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.3300 (Psychological Level), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.3365 (61.8% retracement level). On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.3273 (21 DMA), a break below could take the pair towards 1.3264 (50 DMA). The U.S. dollar was softer on Wednesday after new inflation data bolstered the likelihood U.S. interest rates will not be raised any time soon. Tepid inflation and disappointing producer price data this week support the Fed's stance of keeping interest rates on hold, denting the dollar.

The Japanese yen strengthened 0.03 percent versus the greenback at 111.35 per dollar.

US stocks advanced broadly, with Boeing gaining for the first time since Sunday's crash of a 737 MAX 8 jet in Ethiopia, while European shares rose on expectations British lawmakers will vote to reject a disorderly no-deal exit for Britain from the European Union.

In late NY trading, the euro was up to 1.1329 US dollars from 1.1296 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.3217 dollars from 1.3084 dollars in the previous session.

Germany's 10-year yield gained one basis point to 0.07 percent, the highest in more than a week.

The dollar pulled ahead from a nine-day low on Thursday, largely helped by the pound snapping back after a sharp rally made on Brexit relief. USA gold futures settled 0.9 percent higher at$1,309.3 per ounce.

Elsewhere, oil pushed above US$58 a barrel in NY, boosted by a decline in U.S. crude and fuel stockpiles, adding to evidence of a tightening market.

West Texas Intermediate crude increased 0.1 percent to $58.30 a barrel, the highest in four months.
