U.S doctor on video-connecting robot informs patient of soon death

Doctor tells man he’s dying via video rebot

"The use of the term "robot" is inaccurate and inappropriate", Gaskill-Hames exclaimed.

This 2009 photo provided by Catherine Quintana shows her father, Ernest Quintana, in Fremont, Calif. When the question of hospice care came up, the doctor shared a grim outlook: "I don't know if he's going to get home".

The elderly man was suffering from symptoms associated with the chronic lung disease that would rob him of his life. She was astonished when the doctor told Mr Quintana he would likely die within days.

Quintana passed away two days after he was taken to hospital surrounded by family and friends.

"It was giving his results of his CT scan, and basically telling him he had no lungs left and the only thing he could recommend would be comfort care", said daughter Catherine Quintana.

Ernest Quintana died after being told by a doctor who visited him via robot that there were no more treatment options left. But they're angered by the way the situation was handled and how the news was delivered.

Wilharm said, "Devastated. I was going to lose my grandfather".

The report , entitled " Brexit & the City - the impact so far", was compiled by New Financial, a capital markets think tank. If her deal is rejected, there will be two more votes this week to give MPs the final say on ruling out a no-deal scenario.

Distorted by the speakers, the doctor's voice was inaudible to Ernest, leaving Annalisia to repeat everything he said to her grandfather.

A spokeswoman for the hospital offered "sincere condolences to the family" in a statement sent to CNN.

The Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, where Quintana was being treated, responded in a statement carried by U.S. media in which it offered condolences to the family but disputed the characterization that the news was delivered by "robot".

"It does not, and did not, replace ongoing in-person evaluations and conversations with a patient and family members", the center said. "We use video technology as an appropriate enhancement to the care team and a way to bring additional consultative expertise to the bedside".

Michelle Gaskill-Hames, senior vice president of Kaiser Permanente Greater Southern Alameda County, called the situation highly unusual and said officials "regret falling short" of the patient's expectations.

"This secure video technology is a live conversation with a physician using tele-video technology, and always with a nurse or other physician in the room to explain the goal and function of the technology", Ms Gaskill-Hames said.

Catherine says that she spoke to hospital staff about the robot.
