Delta passengers injured during severe turbulence; Flight makes emergency landing in Nevada

Jet makes emergency landing in Reno after severe turbulence injures 5 passengers

Delta Flight 5763 was making its run from Santa Ana, California to Seattle when the bottom fell out.

According to witness Joe Justice, the turbulence was so strong it put the plane into a nosedive twice, flipping a snack cart through the aisle before pilots decided to make an emergency landing at Nevada's Reno-Tahoe airport.

A passenger recorded video of service carts and other debris littering the center aisle of the plane. His posts included several photos and a video which revealed the extent of the mess created by the turbulence in the aircraft cabin. The flight made an emergency landing just before 1 p.m. PST in Reno, where three of the passengers were transported to the hospital.

The turbulence which the flight experienced may have been linked to a winter storm which has been affecting the Sierra Nevada region.

The National Weather Service in Reno had warned that a winter storm was creating "downright risky flying condition with extreme turbulence". [Passengers] were accommodated on an alternate flight to Seattle that arrived at 9:31 p.m. local time.
