Enes Kanter finds new home with Trail Blazers

Enes Kanter agrees to join Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers have signed free agent center Enes Kanter, it was announced today by president of basketball operations Neil Olshey.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was first with the news. "He's an impact player with Playoff experience that will be an excellent fit with our style of play".

In about a year and a half in New York, Kanter was a productive member of the starting unit, averaging 14.0 points and 10.8 rebounds in a little over 25 minutes per game.

He will wear No. 00 for the Trail Blazers.

"I look forward to helping the Blazers achieve the ultimate goal of competing for a championship", Kanter said on Twitter.

The Knicks officially waived Kanter on Thursday's trade deadline and ate the remainder of his $18.6 million contract for this season - the reason they couldn't trade him. He appeared in 44 games.

The Oklahoma City Thunder matched the sheet, retaining Kanter before eventually trading him to the Knicks as part of the Carmelo Anthony deal in 2017. He did not travel with the New York Knicks to London for a game in January because he said he feared for his safety. Hood and Kanter should be key bench contributors over the final two months of the season as the Blazers jostle for playoff positioning.

The Blazers are 33-23 on the season, good for fourth place in the Western Conference standings. He'll fill the team's 15th and final roster spot.
