OnePlus 5G prototype to debut at Mobile World Congress

OnePlus to show off 5G phone prototype at MWC 2019

OnePlus has collaborated with European telecom carrier EE to be among the first brands to launch a 5G smartphone.

We're now less than two weeks away from MWC 2019, and almost all major smartphone makers will make their presence felt.

OnePlus will be present at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) at Barcelona, to showcase its new product. Attendees will also be able to experience the capabilities of 5G gaming on a OnePlus 5G prototype.

The OnePlus 5G handset is expected to debut sometime in May alongside the OnePlus 7.

OnePlus says that MWC visitors will be invited to "communicate with [their] community over a 5G network", though it's not clear what that entails.

The showdown of several smartphone OEM's will happen at this year's MWC 2019 trade show, with OnePlus being one of the entrants. Keep an eye out for the limited-edition Qualcomm x OnePlus pin badge, only available at the OnePlus stand. OnePlus intends to be one of the first companies to launch a 5G model, and it will be based on the flagship Snapdragon 855 SoC and Snapdragon X50 5G modem. While the latter shouldn't retail much higher than the current gen OnePlus 6T, we expect to see the OnePlus handset with 5G costing way more than a standard 4G flagship.

While this might not be the finished OnePlus 7, it'll be showing us just what that phone will be capable of doing if it does end up launching with 5G.
