Angel DI MARIA assists twice for PSG in win against Manchester United

PSG have the players to stop Pogba insists Draxler

Angel Di Maria endured a torrid return to former club Man United in PSG's UEFA Champions League 2-0 win on Tuesday, but had the last laugh when he sipped a beer bottle thrown onto the pitch and provided the assists for both goals.

Di Maria, who had a beer bottle thrown in his direction in the second half, drank in the criticism from United fans, many of whom have not forgotten his disastrous spell at the club in the 2014/15 season. PSG struggled to bring Kylian Mbappe into the game, without the injured Edinson Cavani stretching United's defence, and Neymar being Neymar.

Di Maria kicked off the pitch by Ashley Young for the second time since 2014.

No yellow came, but the stick kept coming.

Di Maria, who used to play for the Red Devils, received some mild jeering from his former fans on the night and chose to respond after Presnel Kimpembe opened the scoring.

Emotions were running high at Old Trafford, as Di Maria appeared to yell "f*** off" at the United fans as he celebrated PSG's goal.

Di Maria's manager, Thomas Tuchel, said after the game that the jeers from the home crowd simply made the player stronger. "Angel Di Maria is very competitive". Real Madrid were looking to sell, but no one other than United could afford to buy him and he therefore had little choice in the matter. The injuries to Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard towards the end of the first half necessitated a change in formation after the interval, with Pogba drifting further forward and into a central position, alongside substitutes Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata in playing just behind frontman Marcus Rashford.

Paris Saint-Germain's head coach Thomas Tuchel said of the shove: "There was no need to push Di Maria into the fans but I don't think it was on objective". While he did showcase glimpses of his enormous quality, Di Maria wasn't able to do it on a consistent basis.
