Osaka makes surprise split from coach

Naomi Osaka splits with coach two weeks after second Grand Slam title

WIth Bajin as coach, Osaka rose from number 72 to the very summit of the world rankings in a year, winning back-to-back Grand Slams at the US Open and Australian Open.

Osaka posted a tweet on Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, that says she "will no longer be working together with Sascha".

Osaka claimed the first WTA title of her career at Indian Wells in March, defeating Maria Sharapova, Karolina Pliskova and Simona Halep en route to the title.

The Japanese player captured her first Grand Slam crown by stunning Williams at last year's US Open in a final remembered as much for the American's astonishing rant at the chair umpire following a coaching violation.

He replied to Osaka on Twitter by saying: "Thank you Naomi".

Bajin thanked Osaka and said he wished her "nothing but the best". What a ride that was.

Almiron: It's an 'honour' to be Newcastle's record signing
As soon as I heard that Tata Martino [then Atlanta, former Barcelona and Argentina manager] had shown interest in me, I decided straight away.

Bajin won't take long to attract new suitors - he has previously worked with Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Caroline Wozniacki.

Osaka, who is scheduled to compete in Dubai next week, began sounding out potential replacements late a year ago, local media reported.

That added to her championship at the U.S. Open last September, when she defeated Serena Williams in straight sets.

She was born in Japan - her mother is Japanese, her father is Haitian - before moving to the United States when she was three years old.
