Katy Perry’s ‘Blackface’ Shoes Pulled From Dillard’s Amid Backlash

Katy Perry

The 34-year-old singer and clothing designer has pulled two Perry-branded shoes from online stores, following complaints that their designs resembled blackface makeup. In the wake of the blackface scandal enveloping Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and other officials in the state, someone in Perry's camp chose to stop selling the shoes.

Both shoes have also disappeared from the Katy Perry Collections website, which offers a number of other shoe options including sneakers, boots and flats.

Perry's whimsical "Rue Face Slip On Loafers" and the high-heeled version, "Ora Face Block Heel Sandal", will reportedly disappear from shelves, with retailers apparently trying to head off any controversy surrounding the shoes.

The pop icon has yet to make an official on behalf of her namesake brand, but a source told TMZ that "In order to be respectful and sensitive the team is in the process of pulling the shoes".

Social media roared, and Katy Perry listened.
