BBC cameraman attacked at Trump rally

WATCH: BBC cameraman attacked at Trump rally

A BBC cameraman was assaulted in an "incredibly violent attack" as President Donald Trump was accused of whipping his rally into a "frenzy" against the media in Texas.

As President Trump talked about the current unemployment rate among minority groups in America, a man wearing a MAGA hat allegedly shoved a BBC cameraman, knocking both him and his camera over.

The man can then be heard shouting "USA" and "f*ck the media".

According to a BBC report, the man had been attacking various news crews, but Skeans got the worst of it, the blow so blindsiding him that the camera dipped to the floor and swung around crazily until the man was restrained.

The BBC's Washington correspondent Gary O'Donoghue, who is blind, tweeted a clip of the assault and said such behaviour was a "constant feature" of Trump rallies.

Washington news editor Eleanor Montague also reported that "the crowd had been whipped up into a frenzy against the media by Trump and other speakers all night". "Fortunately our cameraman is fine, he is made of stern stuff", he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

Mr O'Donoghue said the goading of the crowds against the media is a "constant feature of these rallies".

"I have been spat at before, they hurl abuse at American colleagues in particular".

Beto O'Rourke speaks to a crowd inside a ball park across the street from where President Donald Trump was holding a rally.

Mr O'Donoghue said Mr Trump's 2020 election campaign, which he thinks has begun, will be as "hostile and ill-tempered and divisive as the one we saw last time".

She added: "To all those who asked after the cameraman - Ron is fine".

Speaking to a packed stadium that holds about 8,000 in El Paso, Trump slammed the 'dishonest media'.

CNN's Jim Acosta has been heckled several times at Trump rallies with supporters of the U.S. president shouting "fake news" and "go home" behind him.

The US President has accused the media of "refusing" to cover his work and openly called them "enemies". Skeans returned the gesture - giving a green light to continue with the rally.
