Pep Guardiola ‘proud’ of City after Chelsea demolition and praises Sergio Aguero

Manchester City star David Silva

The away had lessened in numbers at half-time and the remaining thousands were not given anything to cheer about, with Aguero bagging his hat-trick in the 56th minute before Sterling notched his second late on.

City could do with a favour from Manchester United, who host Liverpool at Old Trafford later in February.

"Well played Mr Dean and well played Sergio Aguero, and well played Manchester City".

Raheem Sterling scored twice and Ilkay Gundogan also netted.

"Today, I didn't see my football", he said after the humiliating defeat.

"Not yet", said Guardiola when asked if City were on a par with Barca.

"I am anxious about my team and the performance - my job is always at risk".

"I don't see any indication from the manager that he is looking to do anything else". So no, because at the beginning (of the season) it (his style of football) worked. Nobody can say anything bad about us, because these guys work a lot. It is not easy. They beat us at Stamford Bridge [in December] and against Napoli last season [in the Champions League] it was tight, they were better in moments.

"Chelsea take the ball, play incredible, so that's why I am very pleased after we played Arsenal, Everton and had a few days to recover".

But after Sunday's humiliation at the Etihad, United are in fourth place, one point ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea.

Before starting on his way to another hat trick, Aguero uncharacteristically missed the target from close range.

Manager Pep Guardiola sank to his knees in frustration but he was soon celebrating as Aguero made amends in sensational fashion.

"So at some point you've got to change what you're doing".

Aguero's second was gifted to him six minutes later. David Luiz headed clear but Ross Barkley inexplicably headed back into the danger area.

City eased off for the remainder of the first half, and Chelsea striker Gonzalo Higuain even managed to test goalkeeper Ederson with a sharp volley.

Even the penalty was a result of Sterling winning a penalty from Azpilicueta on the right-hand side of the Chelsea box, with City left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko then setting up City's sixth goal from the same position.

There seemed to be no let up from City with De Bruyne firing a free-kick at Kepa and Aguero shooting into the side-netting.

Chelsea was un-picked after only four minutes. Now we are playing better at home than away.

"He played the last two games and was key".

Aguero should have doubled the lead nearly immediately but remarkably missed from two yards.
