Michelle Obama’s Grammys surprise appearance kicks off ceremony with a standing ovation

Michelle Obama makes surprise appearance at Grammy Awards

Alicia Keys kicked off the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards by bringing out a few fellow inspiring female celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez and former first lady Michelle Obama. "Music helps us share ourselves".

Jada Pinkett-Smith simply said, "We express our pain, power and progress through music.every voice we hear deserves to be honoured and respected", prompting an "Amen" from Michelle Obama.

An emotional Gaga said: "They said I was weird, that my look, my choices, my sound - that it wouldn't work, but music told me not to listen to them".

Folk singer Brandi Carlile, 37, was also among the early winners, taking two Grammys for her Americana music single The Joke and another for her album By the Way, I Forgive You. "It allows us to hear one another, to invite each other in".

As soon as Obama, wearing a silver sequin suit, started to speak, the audience erupted, offering Obama a standing ovation and a prolonged applause before she could get her speech out. And I know that's true for everybody here. It reminds me where I come from but also reminds of all of the places I can go. Every story within every voice.

The public and press were unaware that the First Lady would attend the Grammys, especially since she's been busy with her book tour.

The music superstar and host of the 2019 Grammy Awards did just that on February 10.

In her first time as host, Keys earned largely positive reviews from the internet reviewers of social media. The women spoke about how music matters, how it connects and heals, and how it empowers.

Keys closed out the historic moment, telling the crowd, "Tonight we celebrate the greatness in each other". "That really says it all". Considering that women, per Billboard, will have a larger presence at this year's Grammys ceremony after being "nearly muted" the prior year, Alicia is right.
