Activision Blizzard Set to Cut Hundreds of Jobs

Activision is about to lay off hundreds of employees

Such is the case of Activision Blizzard, who is getting ready to announce job cuts that will reportedly layoff hundreds of its staff.

The layoffs are part of a restructuring aimed at "centralizing functions and boosting profit", an anonymous source told Bloomberg.

The cuts will follow a tumultuous stretch for Activision, which reported stable Overwatch monthly active users in its Q3 2018 earnings report but a decline in Hearthstone, and also expressed disappointment in the performance of Destiny 2: Forsaken.

It's not been long since Bungie split from their long-term Destiny partners Activision Blizzard, and now the publisher is facing even more woes - apparently hundreds of staff are at risk of being laid off.

As Bloomberg notes, the company has seen quite a shake-up at the top over the past year as well, which certainly doesn't help.

Monaghan said that while she initially feared that the animal might attack their group, the chimp turned out to be pretty chill. He said: "They're intelligent primates and know they're not supposed to be out of their enclosure, so got back in themselves".

Activision Blizzard has also recently lost several high-profile executives: long-time Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, Blizzard co-founder and president Mike Morhaime, Activision Blizzard CFO Spencer Neumann, and Blizzard CFO Amirta Ahuja.

Unfortunately for Activision, this trends seems to be carrying over into the new year, with Tim Kilpin, head of Activision's consumer-products division, announcing his retirement this month. A drop of 2 percent over previous year.

One of the biggest companies in gaming, Activision is thought to employ anywhere from 9,000 to 10,000 employees.

Exactly how many Activision employees will be hit by the layoffs, or how they'll be distributed throughout its constituent companies, is not yet clear; however, an official announcement is expected some time Tuesday.
