Kamala Harris to seek the 2020 Democratic nomination for president

Kamala Harris says she'll decide on 2020 soon, chides Trump on shutdown

During the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Annual Legislative Conference in September, Harris said that America faced a "critical time" under Trump's presidency and that the American dream sought by King was still deferred.

The rollout for "The Truths We Hold: An American Journey" - which is accompanied by a picture book for children - comes early in a six- to eight-week window in which many candidates are expected to unveil their 2020 campaigns.

"Anyone who runs has to answer this, what can I bring to the White House that no one else can bring", Stephanopoulos asked Harris.

Tapper noted that Wallace helped Harris run the California Department of Justice when she was the Attorney General.

Harris said she would make a decision soon and she believes the country is ready for a woman of color as president.

In the book, Harris recounts an instance when she was an intern at the Alameda County district attorney's office and an innocent bystander was one of many people arrested during a drug raid. "That's what's happening", Harris said.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) speaks to reporters in Washington, D.C., on December 4, 2018.

The debate within her camp has been how, and where, to launch her campaign.

But, she continues, "I also know this: it is a false choice to suggest you must either be for the police or for police accountability".

In October, Harris visited Iowa, South Carolina and Wisconsin, but it was to campaign for Democratic candidates ahead of the midterm elections. According to Forbes, Harris laughed during a 2014 interview when a journalist raised a question about legalization. Harris said she "begged" and "pleaded" on a late Friday afternoon for a judge to hear the case so the woman could avoid spending the weekend in jail. Meanwhile, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who is also considering a 2020 bid, often refers to her own prosecutorial past. Elizabeth Warren, who recently formed an exploratory committee but has not officially announced a presidential run, are considered among the top contenders for the Democratic nomination.

The intent is to draw a contrast with Donald Trump by presenting her credentials as a tough, fact-based prosecutor against a factually challenged president who has been under a legal cloud for much of his presidency.

"Apparently you said you were going to make a decision after the holidays as to whether you were going to run for president", Goldberg said. And those are the issues I think about. And I think it's good for the party.
