Rajasthan: Baby’s body split into two, hospital staff booked

Nurse in Rajasthan's Ramgarh decapitates newborn during delivery, leaving head inside womb; police yet to...

The father of the baby has alleged that the hospital staff tried to conceal the matter and didn't inform his family about the botch-up and tried to hide the part of the baby's body which was pulled out.

A pregnant woman, named as Dikhsha Kanwar, was admitted to Ramgarh Community Health Centre in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district on January 6 after her contractions began, the Hindustan Times reports.

A nurse at a government hospital in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan has been accused of decapitating a baby during a hard delivery, local media reported.

The carelessness and the insensitivity shown by the accused male nurse and his colleague endangered the life of the mother, who is said to be fighting for her life in the hospital.

Gynecologist Ravindra Sankhla said he was told the baby was delivered and just the placenta remained in the womb. The police, acting on the woman's complaint, questioned the male nurse about the botched-up procedure.

The incident was reported from Jaisalmer's Ramgarh.

A nurse pulled out the newborn with enormous force during the delivery, the parents alleged.

The woman was then taken to Jawahar Hospital for further treatment after staff said there had been a "complication" with the birth.

The boss of the Ramgarh community health centre claimed he wasn't around at the time of the incident.

When he thought something was wrong, he then referred her to another hospital in Jodhpur.

"We have registered a case against two staffers of Ramgarh hospital and have interrogated them", he was quoted as saying.

Mr Bhati alleged that the nurses at the Ramgarh centre were drunk.

No arrests have been made so far.
