Eleven house searches were carried out in Spain, with €167,000 (£151,000/$193,000) in cash seized, alongside a shotgun, five luxury vehicles, credit cards and relevant documents.

European Union law enforcement agency Europol, which supported the Spanish operation, said at least 97 matches from lower-tier Futures and Challenger tournaments were fixed.

Authorities said the players tainted results after taking bribes from an Armenian ring that was dismantled in October.

Apart from allegedly bribing players, the suspects are accused of using identities of thousands of citizens to bet on the pre-arranged games.

The investigation was triggered in 2017 when the global anti-corruption group, the Tennis Integrity Unit, complained about irregular activities related to pre-arranged matches in the ITF Futures and Challenger tournaments. Bank accounts have also been frozen.

The Armenian gang used a professional tennis player as the link between them and other players.
