May losing control over Brexit process after two defeats in Parliament

Theresa May tells MPs 'see you next Tuesday' as Brexit vote confirmed

"The only way to avoid "no deal" is to vote for the deal", May told lawmakers in the House of Commons on the first of five days of debate ahead of a vote on Tuesday. May had been hoping to have up to 28 days to come up with a new agreement or an alternative Brexit plan if her deal is voted down.

Parliamentary members voted 303 to 296 in favor of an amendment to the Finance Bill that will restrict May from amending taxes to cope with the consequences of crashing out of the European Union without an agreement.

The British government was bringing its little-loved Brexit deal back to Parliament on Wednesday, a month after postponing a vote on the agreement to stave off near-certain defeat.

His decision to allow a vote on the amendment forcing the PM to set out her plans earlier than expected drew furious derision from a swathe of Tory MPs, some of whom directed cries of "pathetic" and "nonsense" at him.

And this motion would be amendable, as I understand it.

But Mr Bercow defended his decision amid jeers and heckles from the Tory benches, saying: "I'm trying to do the right thing and make the right judgments".

"If that is a choice then I say let's go on WTO rules".

Earlier on Tuesday, May called on lawmakers to vote for her deal, suggesting she was confident of getting further assurances from the European Union to ease their concerns and offering Northern Ireland more control over the "backstop" arrangement to prevent the return of a hard border with European Union member Ireland.

But the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) said it would not support the deal unless May dropped a part known as the backstop which is aimed at preventing a hard border between the British province and EU-member Ireland if both sides fail to clinch a future trade deal.

However, Ranveer added, "Ek thoda zaada special hai, ek thoda kamm (One is a little more special than the other)". For the uninitiated, Ranbir and Alia have been in a steady relationship for the last few months.

May's de-facto deputy said it was a delusion to think the government would be able to negotiate a new divorce deal if Parliament voted down hers.

It also said it would accept a change to its Brexit plans which, if passed, would mean that parliament would have the chance to express its disapproval about entering the backstop, if the need to do so arose, without compromising the deal.

The future of Brexit remains deeply uncertain - with options ranging from a disorderly exit from the European Union to another membership referendum - because British lawmakers are expected on January 15 to vote down the deal May struck with the EU in November.

The opposition Labour Party has said it would immediately table a vote of no confidence in the government if May loses the vote.

"I think he stepped way over the mark out today he's broken with parliamentary precedent".

A Number 10 spokesman said: "We are surprised that the Grieve amendment was selected, the advice we received was that it would not be in order".

Leader of the Commons Andrea Leadsom challenged Bercow to publish any advice he had received from his clerks - prompting an eruption from Labour MPs who pointed out the government's own attempts to keep the legal advice it had received on Brexit private.

He said: "That sticker on the subject of Brexit happens to be affixed to or in the windscreen of my wife's vehicle, and I'm sure he wouldn't suggest for one moment that a wife is somehow the property or chattel of her husband".
