Cohen: Both Trump and I knew what we were doing was wrong

Donald Trump 'knew it was wrong' to pay hush money to women, says ex-lawyer Michael Cohen

Admitting he told lies for Trump for "more than 10 years" out of "loyalty" to someone he admired, Cohen said he felt he needed to tell the truth in order to gain his freedom, despite his recent prison sentence.

James has said that she plans to investigate the June 9, 2016 Trump Tower meeting in New York City that was attended by Manafort, the Trump Organization's Jared Kushner (who is married to the president's daughter, Ivanka Trump) and Donald Trump, Jr.as well as Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya and others. The arrangements got made, Cohen says, right after the Billy Bush-Access Hollywood-"grab 'em by the p****" tape emerged. "There's a substantial amount of information that they possessed that corroborates the fact that I am telling the truth". "He was a lawyer and he is supposed to know the law".

Cohen was sentenced on Wednesday to three years in federal prison after pleading guilty to several charges, including campaign finance violations and lying to Congress. Prosecutors have said Trump directed Cohen to arrange the payments to buy the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal in the run-up to the 2016 campaign.

Cohen said he didn't even have much to do with that payment, saying the negotiations were "really just between [Trump] and [AMI CEO] David Pecker, and then David Pecker's counsel", saying, "I just reviewed the documents". "'I'm going to stop lying, starting now, ' is somewhat silly".

When asked if he thinks Trump is now telling the truth about this subject, Cohen simply said, "No".

"I am done with the lying", Cohen said. "Under no circumstances do I want to embarrass the president".

Mr Trump said legal experts had cleared him of any wrongdoing and repeated his denial that he had broken campaign finance laws.

Cohen has told prosecutors the payments totaling $280,000 were made "in coordination with and at the direction" of Trump - referred to in the case as "Individual-1".

Rudy Giuliani, Trump's attorney, previously indicated that the payment to Stormy Daniels was made "to resolve a personal and false allegation in order to protect the president's family" and "it would have been done in any event, whether he was a candidate or not". "I stood up before the world [Wednesday] and I accepted the responsibility for my actions".

Charging Trump Over Hush Money Payouts Implicates Congress In The Same Behavior

"It's never good to be on the wrong side of the President of the United States of America".

U.S. Deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley dismissed Cohen's interview, when asked by reporters Friday at the White House.

Trump has said there was no collusion with the Kremlin, which denies US intelligence agencies' findings that it interfered in the election that saw Trump defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton. He pleaded guilty to eight federal crimes, and later pleaded guilty to an additional count of lying to Congress.

Details regarding what Trump allegedly said are unclear.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, was paid $130,000 as part of a nondisclosure agreement that was signed days before the 2016 election and she's now suing to dissolve that contract. "He attacks my family".

But legal analysts said the accusations against Trump could amount to a felony because they weren't an oversight, but revolve around an alleged conspiracy to hide payments from campaign contribution reports - and from voters.

Cohen said he remains available to answer additional questions from Mueller's team.

On the day of Cohen's sentencing, the Gateway Pundit reported that prosecutors for the Southern District of NY announced that they had reached a non-prosecution agreement with American Media, Inc., the company that paid $150,000 to one of the women.

When Cohen was asked for advice that he had for Donald Trump, he said, "Lay off Twitter, run the country, the way we all thought you would".
