Jose Mourinho ready to break transfer record for £100m-rated defender

Mourinho warns Klopp 'trophies matter' ahead of Man United vs. Liverpool

Liverpool begin the weekend a point clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, and are seeking to win their first trophy since Klopp took charge in October 2015.

Meanwhile, Mourinho will now be focused on getting his team ready for their crunch clash against Liverpool FC at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

"We know that we are going to play against the leaders, against a team on a high, but we have our qualities, we have our potential", he said. "I think it matters, especially when you have the potential to fight for trophies and when you clearly say the objective is to win the trophies".

"I think Jurgen told already they want to win the Premier League, is their objective", he added. You have to do work in the house and when the house is ready then you buy your furniture. To say we want to win, everyone can say that; another thing is to say in a conscious way in relation to the potential you have. "You spend money on the best possible furniture and then you're ready to live in an incredible house". I'd be amazed if we didn't have too much quality for them.

Indeed, United have come away from Anfield with a 0-0 draw in the last two seasons after Mourinho set up his team to "park the bus".

Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian and Diogo Dalot were all absent on Wednesday night due to injury complaints while Alexis Sanchez, Victor Lindelof, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw were also left in Manchester.

The Reds boss was not interested in giving his opinion over whether Jose Mourinho's side are better with or without Pogba in it, instead turning the tables on the reporter by asking if Liverpool's players were the centre of so much attention during his opposite number's media duties earlier in the day.

"Apart from that, the other players who didn't travel were not fit to play in Valencia".

"There will be, I don't want to say a test, but a little introduction to training to see the answer, adaptation and to see if we can increase a little bit tomorrow to have them for Sunday", he said. The defeat in Valencia, I know it was a fringe team, won't do them any good.
