Grace Millane, who turned 22 on Sunday, was last seen entering the CityLife hotel in Auckland at 9:41pm on Saturday 1 December.

"Police have identified this man and he has been spoken to".

An apartment at the hotel was a place of interest and is the subject of a scene examination.

He said he was unable to discuss what man Ms Millane was last seen with.

David Millane, 60, has flown to the other side of the world as officers investigate her disappearance, urging anyone who has any information about his "fun-loving, family-orientated" daughter to come forward.

He added that they "still have no evidence of foul play".

"Clearly this is a very stressful time for Grace's family and the longer she remains missing, the more our concern grows for her safety and wellbeing", said Detective Inspector Scott Beard, of Auckland City Police.

"It's important that anyone who recognises Grace from this photo or saw her on Saturday night contacts Police immediately on 09 302 6970", read the post shared on their Facebook page. Grace has never been out of contact for this amount of time and is usually in daily contact with either her mother, myself or her two brothers.

A missing persons report was filed on Wednesday and "initial investigations are underway", New Zealand Police told Yahoo7 in Australia.

He added: "She has been bombarding us with numerous photographs and messages of her adventures".

"We are all extremely upset and it is very hard at this time to describe the wave of emotions we are going through", he said.

On Thursday, they released a CCTV image of the backpacker at Sky City, in Auckland's CBD, at around 7:15pm.

Police say missing English tourist Grace Millane's father David has arrived in New Zealand as the search for his daughter continues.

Beard said police have more than 20 staff working on the case and have been reviewing hours of surveillance camera footage from around the city, which has proved crucial in tracking Millane's movements.

In response to questions, Beard said she could have more cellphones.

He would not be drawn on whether Grace knew the man prior to their meeting at the hotel.

She had booked to stay at the Base Backpackers hostel in central Auckland until 8 December.

"Her family member is coming out - obviously, they're distraught". It is the last confirmed sighting of her.

The "bubbly", "outgoing" artist and advertising graduate from Essex, in the southeast of England, was travelling solo for the first time.

A month ago she hiked with the group to the Inca citadel Machu Picchu in Peru.

Millane had been travelling alone in New Zealand for two weeks, following a six-week trip through South America.
