Police searching for missing British woman in Auckland

The family of a British woman are reaching out to people in New Zealand to help find the 22-year-old.

The traveller previously kept in daily contact with her family, who are from Billericay, Essex.

She was last seen by her roommates at Base Backpackers Hostel on Saturday, and her brother Declan Millane said on Thursday that most of her belongings had been left there.

Mr Millane told Sky News their father was due to fly out on Wednesday evening and that they are receiving assistance from United Kingdom and New Zealand authorities.

"We sort of noticed Gracie hadn't really texted back or hadn't read anything, which was obviously really unusual because it was her birthday", he said.

She has not returned to her Auckland hostel in several days.

Michael told the Evening Standard: 'It was her birthday on Sunday and when she didn't make any contact with us by Monday, we knew something was wrong - she hadn't linked any of the comments wishing her a happy birthday on Facebook or anything.

Graces' brother, Michael, told the BBC his sister graduated from the University of Lincoln in September and had planned to go travelling around the world.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: 'We are in contact with New Zealand police and providing consular support after a British woman was reported missing in Auckland'.

"There have been a few tips and we will be working through them".

Base Backpackers declined to comment to the Herald yesterday.
