Cardinals acquire Paul Goldschmidt in trade with Diamondbacks

MLB Rumors: Cardinals Willing To Bet Big On Paul Goldschmidt Trade

In exchange for Goldschmidt, the Diamondbacks have acquired catcher Carson Kelly, right-handed pitcher Luke Weaver and minor league infielder Andrew Young. Arizona will also receive a 2019 competitive balance Round B draft pick.

Goldschmidt, 31, is the only NL player to be an All-Star each of the past six seasons - only Mike Trout and Salvador Pérez in the American League have done the same - and that's just the start of his hardware. The final year of his contract for the 2019 season is on a salary of $14.5 million.

Goldschmidt, 31, has been a National League All-Star each of the past six seasons and he's a four-time (2013, 2015, 2017, 2018) NL Silver Slugger award victor and three-time (2013, 2015, 2017) Rawlings Gold Glove award recipient. The Diamondbacks are interested in dumping pitcher Zack Greinke, who left the Dodgers for a six-year, $206.5-million contract after the 2015 season. This past season, he hit.290/.389/.533 with 33 home runs and 83 RBI in 690 plate appearances while playing above-average defense. Young, who split his time past year between the Advanced-A Palm Beach Cardinals and Double-A Springfield Cardinals, hit.289 with 58 RBI and 21 homers.
