This poor Brexit deal is bad for business, which means I'm out

Theresa May's leadership is running out of road as ministers quit over her Brexit plan

UK Prime Theresa May may be having a hard time holding her government together as, as the time of print, four ministers have submitted their resignations immediately after she endorsed a Brexit deal that has always been a long time in coming.

How close is May to a no confidence vote?

This would mean Northern Ireland would stay more closely aligned to some European Union rules, which critics say is unacceptable. Asked if Britain's departure could be delayed, he said: "I assume that the withdrawal date stands".

"The government is trying to force a bad deal that doesn't meet our country's needs by threatening us all with the chaos and serious damage to our economy of a no deal outcome", he will add.

He said that if the threshold was reached would be incumbent on him to "inform and consult the leader of party" and "organise a ballot as soon as is reasonably practical". It also comes at quite an uneasy time for the beleaguered prime minister as she faces growing rebellion among fellow Tories and a massive backlash from the opposition.

She said of her week: "It's been a pretty heavy couple of days", admitting to the Mail that when she went up to her Downing Street living area late on Wednesday the first thing her husband Philip did was to pour her a whisky. Austria holds the rotating European Union presidency.

Dieter Kempf told Funke Mediengruppe newspaper chain that a no-deal Brexit would hit the automotive, aerospace, chemical, pharmaceutical, engineering and electrical industries particularly hard.

With "two or three points" being changed he could support the government's proposals, he said.

Whether or not May wins an improved future partnership offer this week, she still has to get the withdrawal deal itself past the Westminster parliament.

The emergency summit will kick-start the national ratification process in some EU countries as well as in Westminster, setting in train a process that will culminate with a vote in the European Parliament in February and finally Brexit Day on March 29 2019.

"He thinks what I am doing is important for the British people, though he doesn't put it like that".

Meanwhile, speaking ahead of his trip to Brussels, Mr Coveney described the draft agreement as a "positive development, albeit against the backdrop of our shared regret that the United Kingdom is leaving the EU".

The PM warned her fellow Tories about triggering a leadership contest, saying it is in Britain's interest for her to finish the job.

"This idea that now after two years of negotiation, somehow four or five cabinet ministers can negotiate a different outcome and agree it themselves, and then expect the European Union to just sign up to that, I just think it's not living in the real world", Coveney told a podcast recorded by the Irish Times at his party's annual conference.

"It's an option for the future, but it's not an option for today, because if we had a referendum tomorrow, what's it going to be on?"

They are pressing for the release of Whitehall's private economic assessment of how any agreement struck by Mrs May would compare with staying within the EU.
