Woman Dies on Princess Cruises Royal Princess Ship Headed to Aruba

ABC News reports that both local and federal authorities are investigating the Tuesday death of a 52-year-old woman on Princess Cruises' Royal Princess cruise ship.

Authorities are investigating the death of an American passenger on a Princess Cruises ship as it headed to Aruba early Tuesday, the cruise line says.

The FBI and authorities in Aruba are investigating whether the tragic death of an American woman on a Caribbean cruise was an accident or a crime. The cause of death is not yet known at this time.

The Royal Princess was on a 7-day roundtrip Southern Caribbean cruise that left Port Everglades, Florida Friday and is due back in Florida Saturday. The incident happened while the ship - the Royal Princess - was on its way from Curaçao to Aruba.

Aruba news outlet Diario reported that witnesses saw the victim engaged in an altercation with another passenger prior to her death.

Princess Cruises is based in Santa Clarita, California.

Network-monitoring companies say service interruptions lasted for almost two hours and ended about 5.30pm EST (12.30 AEDT). He said he suspected nation-state involvement because the traffic was effectively landing at state-run China Telecom.

The woman fell from the ship's upper deck onto a lifeboat below. We were all woken at 4.30am by a security alert by the captain.

A second source added: "We can literally see the lifeboat from our room".

The Aruba police, Korps Politie Aruba, also took to Facebook to confirm the investigation, writing: "The police force for of Aruba are conducting an investigation on the cruise line of Royal Princess today".

Local investigators have performed an autopsy to establish how the woman died.

Passengers were not allowed to leave the ship once it docked in Aruba later that morning, the user stated.

The death "was reported to the local authorities who met and boarded the ship upon arrival". A spokesperson for the FBI told Yahoo Lifestyle the agency does not comment on open investigations.
