The two juggernaut franchises were scheduled to meet in Mexico City for the game, but according to reports, the location is still subject to change. The league and its players had been concerned about the field at Azteca Stadium, to the point a boycott was floated.

As one unnamed, but prominent player told ESPN, 'It's not fair to risk our health'.

Rams safety John Johnson saw the current field conditions in Mexico City on social media and tweeted his reaction. Kansas City improved to 9-1 with a 26-14 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

The Rams also will give away thousands of seats to first responders and people affected by recent tragedies in Southern California.

As part of the NFL's global series, the home team must keep the date open at its stadium in case of an emergency.

In a statement, the National Football League said the playing surface at Estadio Azteca "does not meet National Football League standards for playability and consistency and will not meet those standards by next Monday". 'Until very recently, we had no major concerns.

Schefter reported the field at Azteca Stadium is "a mess" and might not be safe for the players, adding a number of players had been strongly considering not playing if the game weren't moved. The game against the Rams has been moved to Los Angeles due to poor field conditions.

The league said it consulted with the NFL Players Association and inspected the field Tuesday afternoon with internal and external field experts. The team had been practicing at altitude in Colorado in preparation for Monday's game in Mexico City. The much-anticipated game is just the fifth meeting since 1970 between teams with one or fewer losses in Week 11 or later.
