White House revokes CNN reporter's press pass after clash with Trump

Trump campaigned for numerous Republicans ahead of the midterm elections which he saw as a success

US President Donald Trump points to CNN journalist Jim Acosta during a post-election press conference in the White House.

Following a lengthy and tense verbal back-and-forth, in which Trump at one point started to stray from his lectern and he called Acosta "a rude, bad person", a female White House intern tried to take the microphone from Acosta.

"The edited video looks authentic: Acosta appeared to swiftly chop down on the arm of an aide as he held onto a microphone while questioning President Trump".

InfoWars denied the video had been "doctored" or "sped up", saying it was just "zoomed in".

The White House has suspended the credentials of CNN reporter Jim Acosta.

CNN said Wednesday night that Acosta's suspension "was done in retaliation for his challenging questions at today's press conference" and claimed Sanders "lied" in her explanation of what unraveled.

President Trump gave a news conference on Wednesday following the midterm elections.

Acosta took the president to task over the migrant caravan heading through Mexico towards the American border.

After Acosta engaged in a tense exchange with the president at the White House on Wednesday, an intern moved in to take the microphone from him, but he pulled it back while continuing to question the president.

His exchanges with CNN's Acosta and NBC News' Peter Alexander turned bitterly personal, unusual even for a forum where the nature of their jobs often put presidents and the press at odds.

Democrats gain control of U.S
His connection with his most loyal fans remains so intense that some pundits believe he could help the GOP pull off a surprise. A disproportionate number of the seats up for election were in traditionally Republican states with Democratic incumbents.

"CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them", Trump said to Acosta. You are a rude bad person.

"Just sit down, please", Trump told Acosta, who asked the president off mic about his description of the media as "the enemy of the people".

"What I saw was a battery, not by Jim Acosta, but by the young White House aide", she said. The White House ought to be more careful, and the administration certainly shouldn't banish reporters for being critical.

In video from the event, the journalist is seen attempting to ask a follow-up question but is repeatedly shut down by the United States leader, who says "that's enough" five times.

As the tensions flared, Trump, who called the Russian Federation probe a "witch hunt", repeatedly demanded that Acosta "put down the mic" to allow another reporter to ask a question.

The White House Correspondents' Association released a statement Wednesday saying it "strongly objects to the Trump Administration's decision to use US Secret Service security credentials as a tool to punish a reporter with whom it has a hard relationship".

He said that until the revocation, Sessions' departure was likely to be the topic of Acosta's and others' reporting this evening.

Trump has repeatedly called him "fake news", turning him into a symbol of the president's general animus toward the news media. They are not only unsafe, the are disturbingly un-American. "Honestly, I know you have it written down, that's a racist question".

His organization "absolutely" would support such an effort, he said, and suggested a larger framing might be wise - one that includes the Trump Justice Department's efforts, now before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, to undo the $85 billion merger between AT&T and Time Warner, which is CNN's parent company.

The move followed an incident during President Trump's Wednesday news conference, in which Acosta challenged Trump about his claims regarding immigrants trekking through Mexico to reach the USA border.
