Trump BLOWS UP at Jim Acosta: 'You are a rude, awful person'

Trump attacks members of his own party and shouts at CNN’s Jim Acosta in wild press conference

In a heated moment during U.S. President Donald Trump's post-election press conference, the president attacked CNN journalist Jim Acosta for asking about recent comments the former made about illegal immigration, as well as a controversial campaign video - the president's closing message during the campaign.

The White House later accused Acosta of "placing his hands on a young woman".

Trump said "that's enough!" and a White House intern tried in vain to take the microphone from the CNN journalist.

They began sparring after Acosta asked Trump about the caravan of migrants heading from Latin America to the southern USA border.

"You are a rude, awful person - and you shouldn't be working for CNN".

Acosta held onto it, and raised his arm to stop the aide from taking it, in the process making contact with her.

At the same time, Trump is able to continue his claims of the press being the "enemy" of the populace with the scathing statement from Sanders.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders tweeted that Acosta's conduct was "absolutely unacceptable" and that "the fact that CNN is proud of the way their employee behaved is not only disgusting, it's an example of their outrageous disregard for everyone, including young women, who work in this Administration". Another reporter also asked if Trump was a racist because of support from white nationalists.

It means the Trump presidency - which already had no free rein despite a Republican-led chamber - will face a significant challenge, setting the tone over the remaining two years.

Reacting to Sanders' statement Wednesday, Acosta said: "This is a lie". It was done in retaliation for his challenging questions at today's press conference.

The astonishing exchange comes after the Democrats won control of the US House of Representatives in midterm elections on Tuesday, giving them the opportunity to block Trump's agenda and ramp up scrutiny on his administration. "When you report Fake News, which CNN does, you are the Enemy of the People".

A staff member struggled with him for his microphone during the exchange.

"That's enough! Put down the mic!"

"You should let me run the country", Trump said. The way you treat [White House press secretary] Sarah Huckabee [Sanders] and other people is terrible. It was obviously a question he didn't like. "All I can say at that point is that I was trying to do my job". He added, "I didn't put my hands on her or touch her, as the White House is alleging". I do think, Anderson, that this is a test for all of us.
