Ten-year-old accused of 'deliberately' killing baby at daycare

Report 10-Year-Old Charged as Adult in Wisconsin in Connection to Death of Baby

A 10-year-old girl is charged with killing a 6-month-old boy at a Wisconsin daycare. However, Wisconsin law requires that first-degree homicide charges initially be brought in adult court if the accused is age 10 or older.

Officials say the girl told police that she'd hurt the baby.

Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk says the girl is in juvenile custody and is expected to appear in court today. Her bond was set at $50 000 (around R700 000).

The caller said a six-month-old male was bleeding from the head and was unresponsive.

She panicked when the boy started crying and stamped on his head, the court heard.

The six-month-old was taken to Gillette Children's Hospital in Saint Paul, where he died two days later on 1 November.

According to Star Tribune, the girl, who was accompanied by her biological parents, sobbed throughout her bail hearing.

The girl appeared in Chippewa County Circuit Court on Monday morning in handcuffs and wearing a black hoodie.

According to the district attorney, the girl was in foster care at a home which also serves as a daycare in Tilden.
