Mark Taylor quits Cricket Australia board

Steve Smith was devastated to lose the Australian captaincy

Mark Taylor, second from left, and Michael Kasprowicz, third from left, were the two former test players on the Cricket Australia board. But what grabbed the limelight was his helicopter shot during the knock that apparently reminds of Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni who originates the shot.

Taylor immediately withdrew his name from consideration to replace Peever at the helm of Australian cricket last week citing his commitments with Channel 9 as being too burdensome.

But recent frustrations bubbled to the surface on Sunday when he attacked the players' union for their push to have the bans on Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft lifted. Calls have been growing for Smith and Warner to return to the global fold after a string of poor performances by the national team.

But he believes now is the right time to "allow Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers' Association to work from a fresh page".

"I tend to think they'll probably have more of the same, and I can't think of an ex-player who would be interested in doing the job who could do the job as well as Mark has done it".

Ex-test captain Mark Taylor has quit as a director of Cricket Australia in the latest fallout from a ball-tampering scandal that has reverberated around the national team and its administration since March. "I just had to get the timing right".

"I have always appreciated serving cricket at this peak level, especially as it enabled me to repay by gratitude at being given the ultimate privilege and honour of representing by country, along with the added rare honour of being appointed its captain", Taylor said in his resignation letter to interim CA chairman Earl Eddings.

'Theresa May will get Brexit through Parliament!' Farage predicts success for PM
The EU's deputy chief Brexit negotiator, Sabine Weyand, retweeted Coveney, saying: "Still necessary to repeat this, it seems". But Downing Street has reportedly dismissed the report as "speculation".

Steve Smith might have been handed one-year ban from playing state or worldwide cricket for Australia for his involvement in the ball-tampering but his hunger to score on the cricket field have not reduced a bit.

Taylor said the ACA's demands had further strained relations between players and the governing body as they tried to rebuild from bitter pay negotiations.

"I've got to the stage where I don't think I can give any more".

Eddings credited Taylor for his "significant role in helping build and shape relationships within the cricket community".

"In his role as director he has always worked collaboratively with key parties to put the interests of Australian cricket first".

"It's a good opportunity, obviously with our men's team struggling, for all of us to change for the good and start working out how we can actually work together for the good of Australian cricket".
