Japan 31-69 New Zealand: Steve Hansen impressed by Japan 'razzle-dazzle'

Ngani Laumape celebrating one of his three tries against Japan

All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen said it was too early to know the extent of Milner-Skudder's injury and he would return to New Zealand for further assessment.

Bridge scored with his first touch as an All Black after a superb burst from Mo'unga before Japan grabbed the game's highlight try, Yu Tamura dinking a pinpoint kick into the corner for Jamie Henry to dive over one-handed.

Japan have stunned worldwide rugby fans after running in five tries in a scintillating performance against the world champion All Blacks.

Jamie Henry and Lafaele also breached the All Blacks' defense after the interval, but New Zealand's greater class showed and a flurry of second-half tries ultimately gave the world champions a commanding victory in front of a crowd of 43,751.

Hooker Dane Coles scored New Zealand's first try on his return after nearly a year out with injury, while debutant winger George Bridge scored a double, including one with his first touch as an All Black, after coming on at halftime.

"A few of us got the opportunity to run out there tonight, and I think we did the black jersey proud".

"So it's probably a look to what we'll do against England [in a fortnight] as well, go to the wall, or whatever you want to call it, and mix it up a bit rather than slow the game down".

Throughout the many struggles with his health, Sam's friends were still by his side and frequently visited him over the years. One of Sam's friends, Jimmy Galvin, who was present at the party, described the event as a "red wine appreciation night".

Ngani Laumape used his power to add a brace and Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi scampered over following a misplaced pass from Japan as the Brave Blossoms fell off their tackles to give up what captain Michael Leitch some "soft tries".

"We'd like to do this more and more and get a few more people to the game and encourage rugby in the USA because I think once they figure out rugby's a great game, they're going to be a powerful weapon".

But not Mo'unga, who was by no means alone in impressing.

"I think Japan are getting better and better all the time", said Hansen.

One of the things they learned is that Jordie Barrett has a bit of starch in character as having returned to the starting side after a hard last outing against South Africa in Wellington, his first clearance kick was charged down and Japan scored.

But one hiccup aside when a Jordie Barrett clearance was charged down in the opening minutes to allow Japan a simple seven points and bring the crowd into proceedings, the All Blacks were composed, aware and slick enough to score on the back of most of the half chances they created. "Anybody that came to the game today would have enjoyed what they saw from Japan". There was a little bit of razzle dazzle and they were physical and if you get it wrong they will hurt you.

"There is a large group who may not play in the next 12 months for the All Blacks but they will certainly be involved in the future because of the quality they showed". And they scored some good tries. Which other country could say they have anywhere near the same depth to have thumped Australia one week, changed all 22 of the 23 players and then thumped Japan the next?
